“In the present Kali Yuga, everyone gives utmost importance to money. The reason is that today we cannot survive without it. From basic necessities to the topmost luxuries, it is all a play of money and that is why most of us have come to believe that the sole aim of our lives is the accumulation of wealth. At the same time, many wise and learned men feel that money is the evil behind all problems and is also the main cause behind suffering.

Yet, the fact remains that money by itself is not evil. It is the right use or misuse of money, which makes it favourable or malicious. Baba has said in the Sai Satcharita, “Wealth should be the means to work out Dharma. If it is used for personal enjoyment it is wasted.” ”

If anybody wants any money from you, and you are not inclined to give, do not give, but do not bark at him, like a dog. Let anybody speak hundreds of things against you, do not resent by giving any bitter reply. If you always tolerate such things, you will certainly be happy.”

You first raise a storm and make us restless and then calm it down and comfort us.” Baba replied, “You see, mysterious is the path of action. Though I do nothing, they hold Me responsible for the actions which take place on account of Prarabdha [destiny]. I am only their witness. The Lord is the sole Doer and Inspirer. He is most merciful. Neither I am God nor Master. I am His obedient servant and remember Him constantly. He, who casts aside his egoism and thanks Him and he, who trusts Him entirely, will have his shackles removed and will obtain liberation.” ”

“What a man might give does not last long and it is always imperfect. But what God gives, lasts to the end of time. No other gift from any man can be compared to His. God says, ’Take, take,’ but everybody comes to Me and says, ‘Give, give.’ Nobody attends carefully to the meaning of what I say. My treasury (spiritual wealth) is full, it is overflowing. Dig out and take away this wealth in cartloads. The blessed son of a true mother should fill himself with this wealth. Body (earth) will mix with earth, breath with air. This time won’t come again. He who carries out any spiritual endeavour will reap its fruit and he who remembers these words of Mine will get invaluable happiness.”

“I pray to each of you to make sure that you don’t have to decide and practise charity. Make it a part of your life. Just as we breathe, eat and live each day, so also should we practise kindness and charity. And believe me, one need not have a large amount of money to carry out acts of charity. All one needs to have is a large heart.

If each of us could sacrifice one meal a day or even one meal a week…millions could be fed. And the beauty of this divine virtue is that the more you give the more you receive. Goodness flows out and blessings flow in. So, let us give in abundance and receive in abundance too. For, even the Upanishads say, “In the Kalyug, charity shall be the noblest virtue with the greatest rewards.” ”
