“Saraswati Namastubhyam
Varade Kama Roopini
Vidyaarambham Karishyaami
Siddhir Bhavatu Me Sada”
Meaning:
“O! Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati, the giver of boons,
the embodiment of fulfilling the wishes,
my salutations to you.
I shall begin my education, and

may there be always accomplishment for me.”
*Saraswati is the consort (wife) of Lord Brahma, the creator.  She symbolizes all forms of knowledge which is the basic pursuit of human life.  This shloka is always recited before starting a class of education or learning.  The pursuit of learning is considered as a duty of every human being in Vedic culture. Saraswati holds Veena (stringed musical instrument) in her hands. So she is also known asVeenaadhari (the one holding Veenaa). She is also known as Vennaa Paani.  Paani = hands. Most of the Gods choose an animal as a vehicle.  Saraswati’s vehicle (vaahan / vaahanam) is peacock (mayoor).
